The official UK Mathematical Olympiad for Girls (UK MOG) solutions now include markers’ feedback and the 2026 results statistics. The BMOS announcement dated 12 October also names ten gold medallists who scored at least 48 out of 50.
2026 award thresholds
The expanded official solutions and markers’ report (PDF) gives these thresholds:
- Merit: 13 marks
- Distinction: 21 marks
- Bronze medal: 36 marks
- Silver medal: 41 marks
- Gold medal: 48 marks
These are UK MOG 2026 thresholds out of 50. The report records 1,243 candidates, a mean score of 16.8 and a median of 15. They are not thresholds for a different UKMT competition or a future paper.
What the new feedback explains
The report discusses common approaches and mistakes alongside the solutions. Its geometry feedback stresses the need to justify a claim that looks true in a drawing. Its counting feedback highlights repeated counting and the distinction between adding and multiplying possibilities. The report also explains how a connected argument is assessed in Olympiad marking.
Use the report to plan one useful practice session
Choose one attempted problem and mark the first step you could not justify. Write a short note describing the missing skill before reading the relevant commentary. Then close the report and try writing that step again in your own words.
For additional free preparation, use our proof-writing checklist or practise basic counting. Return to the official problem afterwards and check whether you can now explain the method. Our short practice sessions build individual skills; they do not grade your written Olympiad proof.
