Reading a result correctly

An IMO contestant’s total is the sum of six problem scores, each out of seven. The team table aggregates contestant scores; medals are awarded to individuals. A national ranking does not describe the same event as a country’s position at the IMO.

National organisers differ in what they publish. Some release only award lists or qualification notices; a student’s private score may be available only through the official portal. We link to published records and do not collect roll numbers or login details.

Cut-offs change with the competition

A medal boundary from a completed IMO is historical information. A national qualifying threshold may depend on age, region, category or invitation rules. Always read the notice for that exact round and season.
