For a student in mainland China, the starting point is usually the school and the provincial mathematics competition programme. Search for 全国高中数学联赛, the national high-school mathematics league, rather than looking for an individual IMO application.
Who organises the programme?
The Chinese Mathematical Society (CMS) publishes notices for the high-school league, the China Mathematical Olympiad winter camp and the international team. Its regional society directory helps you find the local organisation. Hong Kong has a separate IMO selection guide.
Your first step: ask about the provincial route
Ask your mathematics teacher which organisation handles league entries in your province and whether there is a local preliminary round or school nomination. Get the current notice before assuming that a previous year’s entry method still applies. The Guangdong Mathematical Society notice board is one example of a provincial source; its arrangements should not be applied to every province.
The questions to settle locally are the eligible school years, any preliminary requirement, the registration deadline, the examination centre and any fee. We have not verified one nationwide application form or a single fee covering all provincial arrangements.
From the league to the IMO team
The broad pathway runs from the high-school league to the national winter camp, commonly called CMO, and then through national training and team selection. Use CMS’s league notices and CMO notices for the relevant season. A league award, a CMO award and a place on the six-person IMO team are different outcomes.
What should you prepare?
Start with the published requirements for your next round. The league has historically combined school mathematics with more demanding Olympiad work, while later selection requires written solutions. We have not verified a complete free official collection of league and CMO papers. CMS’s competition pages are the starting point for released materials and notices. A page announcing awards is not itself a past-paper archive. For international practice, use the released IMO papers.
