Armenia’s national school mathematics Olympiad is part of the subject Olympiad programme of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports. Start with your school and the notices on Olymp.am. This independent guide explains the stages, separates official papers from original practice, and helps you choose a suitable next lesson.

Who can enter and how to register

The mathematics groups are Grades 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and a combined Grades 11–12 group. Tell your school administration that you want to participate: the school registers pupils in the education management system. The standing rules also permit younger pupils to enter a higher-grade Olympiad. Check the appropriate group and your school’s arrangements with your mathematics teacher.

Registration notice checked 5 November 2026: the current school-registration notice gives 3–8 November 2026. The earlier annual procedures instead say registration by 5 November inclusive. Because these dates differ, contact your school promptly and use the latest organiser notice to confirm its deadline. This is school registration; no pupil self-registration route is asserted here.

The national route

  1. School stage: the first competition is held at school. Choose papers for your own grade group.
  2. Regional stage: qualifiers compete at venues selected by regional authorities or Yerevan. The republican subject commission determines progression; this guide does not invent a fixed qualifying score.
  3. Republican stage: qualifying pupils compete nationally. Mathematics Grades 5–6 stop after the regional stage; the current subject-specific rules and released papers include republican mathematics for Grades 7–12.
  4. International preparation and selection: the annual procedures identify republican diploma winners in Grades 10–12 as international-team candidates. The standing rules provide additional preparation and selection competition(s), followed by team proposals and Ministry approval. A national diploma is not an automatic IMO team place. A fixed current selection-test count, duration and marking scheme have not been verified.

Mathematics dates for 2026–27

The 12 October 2026 ministerial order, its calendar and the school-stage notice give:

  • School: 16 November 2026, 13:00. The notice asks pupils to arrive 15 minutes early.
  • Regional: 21 January 2027, 11:00.
  • Republican calendar window: 13–15 February 2027, 10:00. The procedures specify two theoretical test days within this three-date window. Confirm the actual test days and venue in the later arrangements; the window does not mean three examination papers.

Times above are the local clock times in the Armenian organiser’s notices, not India time. Check the school and organiser for amendments before travelling.

What changes between stages?

The released 2025–26 Grade 9 school paper allows 150 minutes for 20 questions: the first 15 have four answer options, and the last five take integer answers from 0 to 999. The corrected key awards one mark per correct response. This released-paper baseline is useful preparation; it does not certify the format of an unreleased future paper.

The released 2026 Grade 9 regional paper has four written problems in 180 minutes. Its question sheet does not establish a mark allocation. The 2026 Grade 9 republican papers have three problems on each of two days, 240 minutes per day, and seven marks per problem. These are proof-based tasks. Do not replace their four-hour duration with the international IMO’s different format.

Mathematics-specific permitted aids and wrong-answer penalties were not established by the school-paper documents inspected here. Follow your actual instructions. Any conditions on an original practice paper are labelled as practice conditions.

Choose study and official papers

Grade 9 school preparation: use the released 2025–26 question paper, corrected answer key and official solutions. The corrected key gives universal credit for that paper’s Question 2; use the correction when reviewing your work.

Written-solution preparation: select your grade in the 2026 regional paper archive and 2026 republican archive. A short-answer method can be a starting point, but a proof must justify every case and conclusion.

After a running-total or average question: learn to count how many times each term contributes. Then investigate what happens when a list is changed, reversed or rearranged.

Original full mocks: no Armenia mock is published in this guide yet. The first Grade 9 school-stage paper is being prepared and reviewed. Five complete papers per verified stage remain the target; neither a draft nor this topic lesson counts as a full mock.

Count contributions before calculating a long sum

The released Grade 9 school paper includes reasoning about averages of partial sums. Our original weighted partial sums lesson develops this idea through position changes, reversed lists and best-order arguments. Four worked examples, nine written problems and adaptive checks are free to use. Its longer proofs are teaching bridges beyond objective-answer practice.

A worked starting point

For the ordered entries 2, 4 and 3, the running totals are 2, 6 and 9. They average 17/3. Instead of rebuilding the totals, notice that the first entry is counted three times, the second twice and the last once: 3 × 2 + 2 × 4 + 3 = 17. Divide this weighted sum by 3, the number of running totals. If the last entry rises by 6, only the last running total changes, so the average rises by 2. If the first entry rises by 6, all three totals change, so the average rises by 6.

This is original topic preparation, not an official problem, a full mock paper or a forecast of future questions.

Separate entry options

  • Kangaroo Armenia: Contests’ Lab describes participation for interested pupils in Grades 3–12 without a preliminary qualifying stage. Ayb reports transferring the running rights in September 2023. It has its own registration and payment arrangements. The organiser page inspected still describes the past 2026 cycle; no 2027 opening is claimed here.
  • Yerevan State University school Olympiad: the 2026 notice covers Grades 10–12 and secondary vocational students, with an online first stage and a university second stage for qualifiers. This is a separate event; current 2027 entry dates are not established by that notice.
  • Young Mathematician: the 2026 official release has separate Grade 5 and Grade 6 papers. That paper release alone does not settle current entry rules.

These are additional opportunities, not verified compulsory steps in the Ministry’s national or IMO selection route.
