The initial AIMO examinations bring together eligible students from Germany’s different qualifying competitions. Each practice set contains two original three-problem sessions with full explanations. In German, these are referred to as IMO-Auswahlklausuren.

Practice format: 6 written-solution problems · Two three-problem sessions; confirm timing in your invitation.

Invitational selection preparation. These paired sets use the question count in the released 2022 archive. The current organiser overview says 180 minutes per examination, while that archived paper says 240 minutes. We do not treat either as a confirmed duration for your next invitation.

Five independently authored practice papers follow the stated structure. Difficulty is editorial, not statistically calibrated to a particular competition year. These papers are not endorsed by the organisers.

Attempt these after substantial national-level proof practice. Learn to identify a promising invariant, estimate or auxiliary construction, and to write a rigorous argument even when you cannot solve every problem.

Format evidence and participation

The current organiser confirms two initial school-based examinations, followed by a 16-student seminar group and further selection tests. Released 2022 papers show three problems per initial examination. Their 240-minute footer conflicts with the current overview’s 180-minute statement, so the invitation must settle timing. The seven later seminar examinations are a separate stage and are not covered here. Official format source. Checked 27 September 2026. Eligibility and applications remain with the organisers.
