Brazil finished first in the country classification at the 18th Ibero-American Interuniversity Mathematics Competition (CIIM 2026), winning three gold medals and one silver. The Brazilian Mathematical Olympiad organisation, OBM, announced the result on 2 November 2026.
The competition took place in Manizales, Colombia, from 26 to 31 October, hosted by the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. CIIM is a university mathematics competition; this result is separate from the school-level International Mathematical Olympiad.
Brazil’s results
OBM’s published results list the following awards and scores:
- Luís Felipe Pestana Giglio: gold, 54 points. OBM also names him the competition’s highest-ranked student, with the “TOP Ouro” distinction.
- Rafael Martins Ruas: gold, 50 points.
- Leonardo Carvalho de Luca: gold, 46 points.
- João Marcelo Ribeiro Monteiro de Carvalho: silver, 40 points.

What kind of competition is CIIM?
The host university’s report, dated 30 October, describes an individual competition with six problems across two examination days. Each day allowed five hours for three problems. Delegation leaders and the central committee then coordinated the marking.
The university reported 64 students and 16 delegation leaders at this edition. Its report supplies the event context; the medal results above come from OBM’s later announcement.
Finding the right preparation route
