Round 2 asks qualifying students to work individually on four substantial problems. These original sets emphasise complete arguments and careful checking rather than speed.

Practice format: 4 written-solution problems · Take-home proof practice; no fixed examination timer.

This is independent preparation for a take-home competition. For actual entries, follow the organiser’s rules on independent work and permitted collaboration; our hints and solutions are for these original practice tasks only.

Five independently authored practice papers follow the stated structure. Difficulty is editorial, not statistically calibrated to a particular competition year. These papers are not endorsed by the organisers.

Before you start

Start with exploratory examples, keep a record of failed approaches, and rewrite your final solution so that another student can follow every inference. Use a hint only after a serious independent attempt.

Format evidence and participation

The organiser specifies four problems in each of the first two rounds, with about two to three months to work on each round. Round 1 allows teams of up to three under its rules; round 2 is individual. The final is a mathematical conversation, not another four-question written round. Official format source. Checked 27 September 2026. Eligibility and applications remain with the organisers.
