How to enter
Register through the school’s mathematics department using the SMS form. The 2026 instructions explicitly disallow exam-day walk-in registration. Overseas entries require a prior agreement with SMS, and nationality/PR information is collected for training selection. Registration instructions

SMO Junior, Senior or Open: the 2026 rules
These are the published 2026 conditions. All three sections exclude students who have attended a tertiary institution full-time. Ask SMS about an unusual schooling situation rather than matching it to an unfamiliar school-year label yourself.

Round 1 lasts two and a half hours in English. Junior and Senior combine multiple-choice and short questions; Open uses short questions. The stated topic ranges are Secondary 1–2 for Junior, Secondary 1–4 for Senior and pre-university mathematics for Open. School-topic familiarity still needs to be developed into problem-solving skill.
Completed SMO 2026 dates
- Round 1: Junior and Senior on 3 June; Open on 4 June. All were held at school venues.
- Round 2: Junior and Senior on 27 June; Open on 4 July. These were invitation-only sittings at NUS.
The official schedule is headed 2026, despite the older year in its URL. It is a record of the completed season, not an entry notice for the next competition.
Does an SMO award give you an IMO place?
An award does not itself select the final team. SMS describes national-team training selection based on SMO Open Round 2, followed by National Team Selection Tests for the six representatives. Junior and Senior training groups are earlier development routes. The SIMO overview describes the general pathway; current invitations determine actual training dates and eligibility. Do not treat its general timetable as a verified 2027 invitation.
For practice, first choose the matching section’s released questions. Use short proof exercises with hints and solutions alongside timed work, especially before attempting Round 2.

If your school does not take part
The 2026 instructions do not offer walk-in entry. Ask the Singapore Mathematical Society about an approved arrangement for your schooling situation rather than arriving at a contest venue unregistered.
